Farm rest bench & BBQ table |
Aug. 20/2023 I have about three zelkova boards given to me by a friend about four years ago. I used one of them to make a bench for resting on the farm. And the remaining two were used for the BBQ table. |
1.The material is zelkova with a thickness of 35 mm. There are three boards, but this time I decided to use a board with a width of 250mm. |
2.Since the length is about 2m, I decided to cut each end by 350mm and use that part as a leg. It was too heavy to use with a table saw, so I cut it with a circular saw. |
3.Cut diagonally with a band saw the part of the leg that connects to the top plate. |
4.Cut the legs parallel to each other with a table saw. |
5.I was thinking of using a dovetail for the connection between the legs and the top plate, but in the end I chose a pocket hole joint. Drill holes in 4 places using a handmade pocket hole jig. |
6.The legs are fixed to the tabletop with 65mm course threads. |
7.Flatten the surface of the baking sheet with a planer. |
8.For the antirust material, I applied "IN-WOOD" that I received from a paint manufacturer more than ten years ago. |
9.This is the leg part. |
10.A 100mm concrete block was placed under the legs to prevent corrosion. |
Completion of the rest area. Next time I have to put a light shielding sheet on the bench. |
I put up a light shielding sheet, but no matter how you look at it, it looks like a homeless person living on the riverbed. |
13.The remaining two zelkova trees are a little wider, so I pasted them on the wooden deck table. |
14.Since it was warped greatly, I roughly cut it with an electric planer, and finally corrected it to a flat surface with a hand plane. |
It's finished with glass paint, so it's a natural color. Maybe the table will be wider and the frequency of BBQ will increase. |
