Hook knife to make from nails |
Nov. 4/2019 I made a hook knife for spoon carving. The blade width is not so wide, but I think it can be used to finish the spoon making. |
1.The material is the same concrete nail # 10 that made the ring tool about 8 years ago. Diameter 3.8 m/m, length 75 mm. Link to [Ring tool] |
2.Heat the nail with a gas burner until it becomes yellow. |
|
3.Repeatedly hitting with a hammer and heating, it is OK if the thickness is less than 1 mm. |
4.Cut out the nail's head part. |
|
5.Shape and polish with a belt sander. |
6.As there is a rotation center about 25 mm in diameter, press the works on this and bend it. |
|
7.The nails are tempered, so they can be easily bent with a mallet. |
8.Finished bending. |
|
9.Heated again with a burner, and oil-harding. The oil used engine oil. |
10.After hardening, the surface is oxidized to form a black film. |
|
11.Will restore its gloss on sanding. |
12.Next, make the handle section. The material is Japanese ash. Turning a cylinder 25 mm in diameter. |
|
13.Turning to a shape that is easy to hold. |
14.Drill a 3.6mm hole ‚†or insert the blade. |
|
15.Insert the blade into the handle. After sharpening with a grinding wheel, polish with a PIKAL. |
16.Polishing completed. This is a push-type hook knife. |
|
17.This is the type to pull and cut. |
18.The handle was fixed to the ditched wooden base with paper tape, and the name was engraved with a laser machine. The size is about 20mm * 10 mm. |
|
I think that it can be engraved well on the curve. |

How is the sharpness of the knife? |
